Marie Thibault is a first generation French vigneron whose path into the wine industry began through a degree in biology and oenology. After graduation she took a job working for Francois Chidaine in the Loire Valley commune of Montlouis where she quickly developed a deep love for Chenin Blanc. Marie purchased her own 3.5 hectare estate in 2011 in nearby Azay-le-Rideau and dubbed it eponymously as Domaine Marie Thibault, immediately committing to organic farming and hands-off winemaking practices. Her vineyard lies on a picturesque plateau and is set on soils of white clay and limestone, which help impart wonderful minerality and tension into her wines. Her passion, desire, and determination to continuously improve have established her as one of the Loire Valley's brightest young stars and she shows no signs of slowing down soon.
This 2016 Premier Nez Chenin Blanc is a wonderful example of Marie's unique style. It is aromatic and intense with plenty of citrus, floral, and herbal nuance, yet it writhes with earthy tension and minerality. It contains oodles of Chenin's stereotypical high acidity that has calmed slightly with a bit of bottle age. This is an exceptionally complex white wine that checks every box one could ask for in Loire Valley Chenin.
