While Arianna Occhipinti's wines need no introduction,her lesser-known Tami' collaboration with friends remains a hidden gem for those seeking an accessible,earlier-drinking version of a classic Sicilian variety.
A contraction of 'tra' and 'amici' (meaning amongst friends),Tami' started as and remains an artisanal goods shop in Siracusa that eventually leveraged one of the founders' nearby vineyard to introduce a modestly-priced wine to their offering in 2009.
Organically farmed and hand-harvested from their flat and sandy site in the contrada of Bastonaca,the grapes were destemmed prior to a short,two-day maceration on their skins. Fermentation took place in concrete and stainless steel tanks using native yeasts followed by six months of further aging in the latter vessel.

"The last official vintage of the Tami' project was 2017. Arianna and Francesco have amiably parted ways with the shop. Salvatore, the owner of the vines, has begun focusing more on his restaurant projects. While this marks the end of one story, we believe something greater will come of it. Stay tuned.

The first manifestation of Tami' came in the form of a quirky retail store in Siracusa founded by Arianna Occhipinti and longtime friend Francesco. Combining Francesco's background in design and architecture with Arianna's desire to open a wine shop, the store carries books, gadgets, knick knacks and of course many choice bottles!

In 2009, Tami' also became a wine label. Arianna explains: 

"The Tami' project was an idea that came to me a few years ago, and that was to prove that it's possible to make good, simple, natural wine in Sicily. Tami' is something I've started with some friends who own vineyards in Contrada, a district close to mine. Three years ago, we agreed we would convert their vineyards to organic viticulture. In 2009, we made the first "all grape" vinification. The goal was to take good grapes and make a simple, every day wine."-Louis/Dressner Selections
